1. FC Union Berlin's women's team are using the international break for a friendly against the second division side, 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam on Thursday, 08.10.2026. Kick off at the Fritz-Lesch-Sportplatz on Dörpfeldstraße will be at 13:00.
The Opponents
1. FFC Turbine Potsdam remain one of the most renowned clubs in German women’s football, but they have been going through a phase of transition for several years. Under head coach Steen Gravgaard Ladefoged, the Brandenburg team are now looking to stabilise themselves in the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga. Turbine's squad is a mix of experienced players and many young talents.
the teams faced each other in pre-season when Union won 6-2, with goals from Lia Kamber, Amber Tysiak, Nele Bauereisen, Hannah Eurlings, and Leela Egli with a brace.
The season's start for the Potsdam team has been mixed so far. After their first victory in mid-September, a 2-1 away win against the second team of 1. FC Köln, they have recently suffered some setbacks. Last weekend, they secured their fourth point of the season with a 0-0 against Eintracht Frankfurt II. As a result, they currently sit in second-to-last place in the table after eight matchdays.
Two former Turbine players are in the Union squad in Sophie Weidauer (2014-2023) and Dina Orschmann (2019-2022). Additionally, head coach Marie-Louise Eta (2005-2011) and director of women's professional football Jennifer Zietz (1999-2013) were part of the side who won the UEFA Women's Champions League with the Brandenburger team in 2011.
In addition to the eight players who are away with their national teams, the coaching staff will have to do without the services of Anna Aehling, Cara Bösl, Leela Egli, Hannah Eurlings, Lisa Heiseler, Korina Janež, Ida Heikkinen, Nelly Smolarczyk, and Tanja Pawollek.
“We want to use the friendly to stay in rhythm and give all players from the squad important playing time. At the same time, it gives us the opportunity to integrate young players from our U-23 team and allow them to gain playing time with us,” explained head coach Marie-Louise Eta before the Friendly.
The admission for the match at Fritz-Lesch-Sportplatz is free. The gates open at 12:00. Food and drinks will be available on site.
Union will provide updates via the liveticker. Furthermore, the Friendly will be broadcast live on AFTV+.
