Two opponents Over 120 Minutes

Union's Women Face Tournament Day in Jena.

1. FC Union Berlin's women's team will continue their summer preparation in a tournament at the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld in Jena on Saturday afternoon.

There are two tough tests waiting for Marie-Louise Eta's side. First, they will face the Czech top-tier team Sparta Prague at 16:00, followed by a duel with the recently relegated FC Carl Zeiss Jena at 17:30. Both matches will be played for 60 minutes.

With Sparta Prague, the most successful club in Czech women's football awaits the Unionerinnen. The Prague team secured their 22nd championship in their home country last season and are regular participants in the UEFA Women's Champions League. The Czech top club has an experienced squad with numerous national players and has been one of the dominant teams in the country for years. In the last international break, the Czech national squad included six players from AC. For the Köpenickerinnen, this duel thus represents a challenging international test in the ongoing summer preparation.

The women's department of FC Carl Zeiss Jena, founded only in 2017, is facing a reboot. After the 2025/26 season, the Thüringerinnen had to accept relegation from the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga. With two wins, five draws, and nineteen defeats, the FCC finished in 14th place, thus occupying the last position in the table. However, much has changed in the squad of the Jenaerinnen during the summer break: 13 new signings and 19 departures give the team a new face, aiming to approach the upcoming season with fresh energy and new impulses. Former Union player Gwen Mummert (2015-2018) is one of the few players going to the second division with the FCC. Josi Bonsu (2015-2021 at Union), on the other hand, counts among the numerous departures, but is still without a new club.

At the start of the Friendly, the coaching team has to do without Anna Aehling, Cara Bösl, Eileen Campbell, Hannah Eurlings, Lisanne Gräwe, Korina Janež, Mariann Noack, Dina Orschmann, Tanja Pawollek, Nelly Smolarczyk, and Judith Steinert.

“After the good first Friendly against Turbine and an intense training week, we are looking forward to the upcoming challenges against AC Sparta Prague and Carl Zeiss Jena. The tournament gives us the opportunity to provide all players with field minutes in two 60-minute games while simultaneously implementing the content worked on in training step by step,” says head coach Marie-Louise Eta.

The tournament in Jena will take place on pitch 3 in the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld. Tickets can be purchased at the box office for €5, children up to the age of fourteen receive free admission.

Union will provide updates about the match in german via a live ticker. Following the tournament, interviews and highlights will be available on AFTV, as well as both matches in relive on AFTV+
