Ten Union Players Nominated for National Teams

Ten players from the ranks of 1. FC Union Berlin’s Bundesliga squad are delighted to have again been called up to their national teams for the upcoming international break.

The Nominees 

For Germany’s trip to North America, the new national coach Julian Nagelsmann has nominated two Union players. In addition to Robin Gosens, who has already made 18 appearances for Germany and took part in the 2021 European Championships, Kevin Behrens has also been called up to the DFB team for the first time. The striker has been under contract with Union since 2021 and has been one of the key players in Urs Fischer's team in recent years. He has scored four goals in six Bundesliga appearances this season.

Young talent Aljoscha Kemlein, who has already played for Germany at U18 and U19 level and was part of the U20 squad for the first time in September, has been nominated for the upcoming games in the "Under 20 Elite League". The tournament, in which seven other European nations will take part alongside the German team, is held annually and spans a large part of the season. The current title holders are Italy.

Czech midfielder Alex Král has also been called up. The 25-year-old has worn the red jersey of his home country since the U17s and was part of the team that reached the quarter-finals at Euro 2021, where they were only narrowly eliminated 2-1 by Denmark. In the top match against league leaders Albania, the Czechs now have an opportunity to take the top spot in their European Championship qualifying group.

Full-back Josip Juranović has also been nominated for his home country's squad. Juranović has been a regular in the Croatian team for years, taking part in Euro 2021 and was a regular starter in the side that finished third at last year's World Cup in Qatar. In the qualifiers for the 2024 European Championships, Juranović and his teammates have a home game against Turkey, with whom they are level on points, next week before they travel to face the Welsh, coached by Rob Page, in Cardiff.

Eight-time Denmark international Frederik Rönnow has been named by national coach Kasper Hjulmand for the games against Kazakhstan and San Marino. Under Hjulmand, Denmark reached the semi-finals at Euro 2021, where they were eliminated by eventual runners-up England. The Scandinavians are currently second in their qualifying group, one point behind leaders Slovenia.

In a group with Equatorial Guinea, Botswana and Libya, Aïssa Laïdouni and Tunisia have already qualified confidently for the Africa Cup in January 2024. To prepare for the tournament in Côte d'Ivoire, the "Eagles of Carthage" will travel to Asia and play two friendly matches against South Korea and Japan.

Brenden Aaronson has been nominated by Gregg Berhalter for the USA’s upcoming internationals. They will face Germany in East Hartford on 14 October and Ghana in Nashville three days later. Aaronson has so far worn the jersey of the senior national team 34 times. His brother Paxten, under contract with Eintracht Frankfurt, is also an international player.

Striker Sheraldo Becker will travel to South America to play for the Suriname national team against Haiti and Grenada in the CONCACAF Nations League. The Amsterdam-born son of Surinamese parents has so far played for the former Dutch colony seven times and took part in the continental tournament Gold Cup in 2021.

Left-back Jérôme Roussillon also has a long trip ahead of him during the international break. The 30-year-old will play twice for the French overseas territory of Guadeloupe against the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, also as part of the CONCACAF Nations League. Guadeloupe are currently second in their group after two wins from two matches.
