Union to welcome Grasshopper Zürich

1. FC Union Berlin will host Swiss club Grasshopper Zürich at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei during the upcoming international break.

The match has been scheduled for Wednesday September 5, with an 18:00 kick off planned. Gates open at the stadium at 17:00.

Review: Union goalless in Sandhausen, Grasshopper lose

Both teams will have hoped for better results at the weekend. Union Berlin left Sandhausen with a point to remain unbeaten in the 2.Bundesliga. Meanwhile, the Swiss side lost 2-1 away to FC Luzern despite new signing Raphael Holzhauser giving them the lead. Blessing Eleke and Pascal Schürpf scored late on to give Luzern all three points.

The opponents — First club in Zürich

Grasshopper Zürich have an illustrious history in Swiss domestic football, having won 27 championships and 19 cups since the club was founded in 1886. However, the club has gone through a barren period with their last trophy coming in 2012/13 and the last championship back in 2003. Last season, Thorsten Fink’s men just about avoided relegation and finished second last in the table.
