In their last game before the first round of the DFB Pokal, marking the start of the 2023/24 season, 1. FC Union Berlin will host Serie A’s Atalanta BC. The friendly will kick off at 15:30 on Saturday, 05.08.2023, in the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

A game with a history

Union have traditionally hosted an international opponent at the Alte Försterei for the final friendly of the season, and several illustrious names have visited the stadium for the event. Last year the newly promoted Nottingham Forest, for example, joined the names of Girondins Bordeaux, Crystal Palace and Bilbao’s Athletic Club, giving the Unioner a final chance to bid goodbye to Taiwo Awoniyi.

The opponents

Though the club from Lombardy have only won one national title so far - the 3-1 victory in the final of the Coppa Italia against AC Torino (today Torino FC) in 1962/63 - they remain one of the most famous clubs in the whole of Italy.

Atalanta are also known nationally for their large and extensive youth system, which was established in the early 1990s and is one of the most successful in the highest Italian youth league, with four championships and three cup wins to date.

The club, currently coached by Gian Piero Gasperini, finished 5th in Serie A in the 2022/23 season and will compete in the UEFA Europa League next season.

Tickets for Union members will go on sale online on Tuesday, 04.07.2023 (12:00). Up to four tickets per member can be purchased. From Thursday, 06.07.2023 (12:00), tickets will then be made available on general sale and on 07.07.2023 will be on sale in all Union’s Zeughaus stores. Bundesliga admission prices apply. In the main stand, all tickets are available at the price of the cheapest seats.
