Michael Gspurning signs new deal as goalkeeping coach

1. FC Union Berlin's goalkeeping coach Michael Gspurning has agreed to stay at the club until June 2021.

Gspurning moved to Union in the summer of 2016 from Schalke as a player, retiring a year later to take up his current position in the backroom team. The result of Michael's work was clear to see as Union conceded the fewest goals in the 2.Bundesliga last season.

"Working as a goalkeeping coach is a lot of fun for me and after three years in Berlin, I don't just feel at home in the capital but also at Union. I'm looking forward to being part of the coaching team in the future and would like to contribute on a daily basis to the development of our players," said Gspurning.

"With the new deal for Gspurning, our coaching team is complete for the coming season. In the past years, Michael has mastered the step from player to coach in an excellent way and is an important building block in our coaching team. It is great that we will continue to work together in the future," said Oliver Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin's Director for Professional Football.

Next season, Urs Fischer's backroom team will feature Sebastian Bönig, Markus Hoffmann, Michael Gspurning, Martin Krüger and Christopher Busse.

Gspurning's contract will run until June 30, 2021 and is valid for both Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga competitions.
