1. FC Union Berlin prepare for Dresden battle

1. FC Union Berlin continue their push in the league with a home match against rivals SG Dynamo Dresden at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Sunday October 28 (13:30).

Review: Union stay unbeaten, Dresden pick up point

Union Berlin’s unbeaten phase in the 2.Bundesliga was extended to a club record 12 games in total (inc. last season) with a 0-0 draw in Paderborn. Urs Fischer’s team haven’t suffered a loss in all competitions this season but will be looking to convert one point into three more often. “We need to try and repeat the second half from Paderborn. For me, it was in the right direction, in which we played with more bravery,” said Fischer at the pre-match press conference.

Sunday’s opponents Dynamo Dresden are seven games into the tenure of Maik Walpurgis, who succeeded former Union coach Uwe Neuhaus in September. Dynamo are 10th in the table and have looked more assured on the road — most recently drawing in Magdeburg and picking up wins in Bochum and Regensburg. At the DDV-Stadion, results have been a mixed bag for Dynamo with a 1-1 draw at home to Erzgebirge Aue bringing the club up to 14 points so far.

Record: East clash since 1986, Union on top since 2000

1. FC Union Berlin and SG Dynamo Dresden will meet for the 70th time on Sunday in Köpenick. Dresden have enjoyed a stronger record against the Berliners with 32 wins. Since the turn of the millennium, the Köpenick club have been on top winning 10 games from 18 and establishing themselves for the longer period in the second division. Last season, Dresden won at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in December. But Union, under the management of Andre Hofschneider, turned it around and won 1-0 towards the tail-end of the campaign.

Personnel: Hübner given all clear

Fischer confirmed central defender Florian Hübner had missed training on Wednesday, but has since returned to come through the last sessions of the week. Michael Parensen is back in team training following his recent injury scare, but is largely doubtful to be named in the squad. Marc Torrejon’s fitness is being assessed on a day-to-day basis as he looks to make a step closer to the first-team fold in the coming weeks.

Service: Tickets aren’t available on matchday

The Stadion An der Alten Försterei is completely sold out for Sunday’s league encounter with around 2,500 supporters expected from Dresden.
