Without conditions: DFL awards Union licence

1. FC Union Berlin have received the club licence for the 2.Bundesliga for season 2018/19 from the DFL, the league governing body. The permission to compete in next year’s competition were granted without general or club-specific conditions.

“We are pleased with the result of the licencing process and expected it to be like this. Our sincere thanks go to our partners, sponsors and employees who worked together to achieve this result,” said Oskar Kosche, Licensing Managing Director for 1. FC Union Berlin.

Forty-seven clubs from the Bundesliga, 2.Bundesliga and 3.Liga applied for 36 places in the leagues governed by the DFL. No club was denied a licence, but some clubs will have to meet certain conditions in the coming weeks in order to be eligible to compete. The Licencing Committee makes a final decision at the beginning of June.

In order to ensure fair and honest competition, the DFL examines not only the economic performance of the clubs but also their infrastructure, legal, personnel administration, media technology and sporting criteria in accordance with the body’s own statutes.
