Late equaliser secures derby point

1. FC Union Berlin salvaged a point in Saturday's local derby against Hertha BSC thanks to Paul Petermann's late equaliser to make it 3-3.

The Köpenick side held their own against last season's German champions at U19 level, with a number of supporters attending the game at the FEZ in Berlin.

Willi Weiße's side took the lead after 23 minutes through Leon Sitz, with the Old Lady equalising seven minutes later through Ruwen Werthmüller. Union's Daniel Eidtner, who made his first-team debut in the friendly against Altglienicke last month, scored on 37 minutes to give the Köpenick side a deserved lead for the second time.

But Hertha's quality came through with a goal from Julian Albrecht and then a third from Omar Rekik to put Union behind for the first time. After a late push forward, Petermann got the breakthrough to secure a point.

"Despite the big missed chances, the two equalisers and going behind, they never let themselves be distracted from the task or from their own game. Petermann's last-minute goal meant the equalizer and the point win in the derby. Surely we have also filled up more self-confidence today, which we will take with us to the away game in Leipzig," said coach Weiße.
