Dresden defeated as Union continue strong start

1. FC Union Berlin's 3-1 win over Dynamo Dresden in the U19 Bundesliga continued the team's impressive unbeaten start to the league campaign.

Second-placed Union likely could not have made a better start. Fisnik Allsani dominated his one-versus-one battles with the Dresden goalkeeper and put Union ahead after two minutes. He collected a pass from Gencel to score four minutes later.

But with a 2-0 deficit, Dresden never gave up. Sitting in third before the matchday, Dynamo were more than capable of causing problems. Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer netted eight minutes after the restart of the second half, but Union showed resilience and good game management to stay ahead. On 72 minutes, Union secured the points with Tim Maciejewski crossing for Laurenz Dehl to continue his good goalscoring start to the season.

"I think we deserved to win due to the strong early phase. But it has to be said that it wasn't one of our best games. In the end, Dresden could have taken a point. The game against Wolfsburg will be the fourth top match in a row for us, but I hope we'll be top of the league after 3 weeks from now, Games against Wolfsburg are always interesting and it definitely will be a challenge. It will be hard, but I'm looking forward to it," said U19 coach Andre Vilk.

XI: Oppermann; Labroussis, Rankic, Liebelt, Riecke; Cvjetinovic (Czosnyka 81), Gencel (Koch 73), Dehl, Maciejewski, Aksakal (Travassos 62); Allsani (Mentrup 89)

There's a short pause in the league, but in three weeks from now, the Köpenick club will go head-to-head with table-toppers Wolfsburg at the FEZ Berlin complex on October 19 at 13:00.
