Yannic Stein on Loan to Babelsberg 03
A Temporary Spot in Potsdam

1. FC Union Berlin’s men’s team will play the rest of the second half of the 2024/25 Bundesliga season without goalkeeper Yannic Stein. The 20-year-old was recently back in Union’s matchday squad after his injury in the first half of the season, but is now moving to Babelsberg 03 on loan in the Regionalliga Nordost until Summer 2026. As part of the move, the Berlin native and 1. FC Union Berlin have also agreed to extend his contract.
Second half of the season away from home
Originally coming through the youth ranks of Viktoria Berlin, the 6’2” goalkeeper joined Union’s youth set-up in 2019 and also played five games in the UEFA Youth League with the U19s in the 2023/24 season. At the beginning of last year, Stein joined third-division club VfB Lübeck on loan and played three games there.
“Yannic has not had an easy six months, but he is now fit, ready for action and keen to get back into it. In SV Babelsberg 03, we have found a club where he can develop and, above all, gain match practice,” said Horst Heldt, director of men's professional football at 1. FC Union Berlin, on the loan.
