Five to leave club in the summer

Following the announcement of Grischa Prömel's summer switch to Hoffenheim, four other first-team players will say their goodbyes at the end of the season. The contracts of Jakob Busk, Bastian Oczipka, Anthony Ujah and Suleiman Abdullahi won't be extended beyond the summer.

Around five minutes before kick-off against Bochum, the Union support will have the opportunity to wish them well.

After six-and-a-half years: Busk departs Union

Goalkeeper Jakob Busk is the longest-serving player in the squad of 1. FC Union Berlin. He arrived in 2016 at 22 years of age from FC Copenhagen. He became the number one of Union in the 2.Bundesliga and was part of the 2018/19 promotion-winning squad. With 18 clean sheets in 57 competitive appearances, the Dane will look for new challenges elsewhere.

Fans Favourite Prömel joins old club

Vice-captain Grischa Prömel brings an end to his five years in Köpenick ahead of his transfer to Hoffenheim this summer. The midfielder appeared 140 times in competitive action for Union, scoring 18 goals and claiming 10 assists. Like Busk, Prömel also played a key role in the promotion season of 2018/19. The 27-year-old is Union's second-highest scorer this season with six – behind top scorer Taiwo Awoniyi. Prömel will return to his old stomping ground at Hoffenheim where he won the German Championship at U19 level.

Abdullahi heads to pastures new

Suleiman Abdullahi will be a name in Union history following his goal in the relegation play-off match at VfB Stuttgart. That goal was one of the decisive actions to help Union secure promotion to the Bundesliga for the first time. The striker joined from Eintracht Braunschweig in 2018 and returned on loan in 2020/21.

Ujah departs the capital

Anthony Ujah joined 1. FC Union ahead of the first-ever season in the Bundesliga. He brought experience and goals from his previous time at Mainz and Köln. He scored three goals in his first season in Köpenick, including one in an important 2-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Nigerian unfortunately suffered knee issues and after surgery was forced to miss a long phase. In February 2022, he returned to action against Borussia Dortmund and was greeted with cheers of "Tony" from the crowd at the Alte Försterei.

Oczipka moves on after successful season

After a successful season, Bastian Oczipka's time with Union has come to a close. Coming from Schalke, Oczipka was supposed to add to the depth of the squad in the full-back area. In 17 competitive matches, he assisted one goal each in the Bundesliga and the German Cup. The 33-year-old played a key role to help achieve European football and reach the German Cup semi-finals. Oczipka also celebrated his 300th Bundesliga game in the Berlin derby and this was marked before Union hosted Eintracht Frankfurt.
