In particular, in the first weeks of the season, the people of Augsburg impressed with brave attacking football and scored a total of nine goals against FC Schalke 04, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

Under head coach Manuel Baum, who has been with FCA since the end of 2025, the Augsburg team continues to rely on an intense and high-running style of play. The results so far show a certain unpredictability: A 4-1 away victory in Frankfurt was followed by, among other things, a 2-2 draw against Leverkusen, a narrow defeat in Bremen, and most recently the high-scoring clash in Elversberg.

Notably, since the last international break, the Augsburg team can count a second German international player in their squad alongside Finn Dahmen with Hennes Behrens. The latter made his international debut in the match against Greece on 27.09.2026.

The encounter on Saturday is the 19th competitive match between both clubs. From the perspective of Union, the FCA traditionally represents an unpleasant opponent: Of the previous 18 encounters, the Eisernen were only able to win three, while eight matches ended in a draw and seven others went to Augsburg.

However, the Köpenickers have positive memories of the last duel: On the 34th matchday of the last season, Union won 4-0 against the Fuggerstadt at the Alte Försterei.

With Rani Khedira and Felix Uduokhai, two Union professionals are in the squad who have previously played for FC Augsburg. On the side of the Fuggerstadt, Union also faces Tom Wisbereit, who has worked for the Unioner youth team in the past. The reunion is completed by Marc Lettau, who worked as an assistant to the management of professional football in Köpenick until 2022 and is now the squad planner for FCA.

Head coach Mauro Lustrinelli and his coaching team will have to do without Stanley Nsoki and Andrej Ilić on Saturday.

"We are facing a well-organized team in Augsburg that can switch play effectively after regaining possession. Therefore, it is a good challenge to see where we stand. The atmosphere in the team is good and the energy we gained from our recent successes gives us momentum. Whether we are away or at home, our focus is on what we have done well in the past weeks. We want to bring our game onto the pitch as best as we can to deliver good performances," emphasized Mauro Lustrinelli at the Union match day press conference.

Manuel Baum looks ahead to the upcoming encounter: "Tactically, there has already been a slight transformation at Union. However, they are still very strong in set-pieces. We are facing a physically strong team that plays football with a lot of determination."
