The Japan-native found his way to Köpenick via Yokohama F Marinos where he enjoyed a successful 2020/21 season in the J-League. Union's number 18 got into the squad quickly despite some fitness issues, contributing to the first goal against Arminia Bielefeld in his fourth appearance. Endo has made 21 appearances for the Köpenick club.

"Keita has already proven that he has what it takes to be a Bundesliga player. With the loan, he has the chance to get more playing time at a good level and to develop even further," added Oliver Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin's Managing Director of Professional Football.
