Membership in the club

Our fan and membership department (FuMA) serves as a point of contact for fans and members and actively shapes club life. It brings in ideas and projects from the fan environment to achieve a stronger integration and identification of fans and members with their club.

The department also regularly proposes a candidate for the election to the Supervisory Board of 1. FC Union Berlin e.V., who will be specifically responsible for fan and member issues in this committee.

The working groups

Every club that wants to compete at the professional level must market itself to remain competitive. These rules also apply to 1. FC Union Berlin. However, the club has consciously set limits on marketing in recent years. An unrestrained and uncritical commercialization of our sport would contradict the members' and fans' understanding of football culture. Yet, naturally, the sponsors and partners of the club are keen on as much visibility as possible, leading to ongoing discussions about various aspects of marketing.

The Marketing department sees itself as a link between the fan base and the club in these discussions. Through a continuous exchange of ideas and regular collaboration, we strive to give voice to the different viewpoints and ultimately reach the best possible compromises.

A significant part of our work involves addressing suggestions, criticisms, and ideas in the area of fan merchandise. This involves, on the one hand, a critical examination of the existing offer, and on the other hand, receiving the suggestions from fans and members and ultimately implementing them.

The 1. FC Union Berlin is proud of the diversity of its fan scene. This heterogeneity also means that the interests of the fans can sometimes be very different. An active fan from the ultra scene is usually faced with different challenges and issues when attending matches than, for example, a family with children.

The aim of the Fan Interests Working Group is to represent the interests of all fans of 1. FC Union Berlin and to serve as a central point of contact in this context. The goal is to ensure that all fans of 1. FC Union Berlin, as well as our away fans, have a pleasant visit to the stadium match after match.

The Fan Interests Working Group sees itself as a platform where existing problems can be addressed. In the next step, we aim for a joint assessment of the issues in dialogue with representatives of 1. FC Union Berlin. Ideally, this should lead to concrete measures being implemented, taking all conditions into account (e.g. legal frameworks).

Furthermore, the Fan Interests Working Group acts as an interface to nationally known fan initiatives such as proFans and regularly informs about the projects being worked on within these initiatives. Additionally, we collaborate closely with the Fan Rights Fund as needed. Ideas and suggestions are always warmly welcomed.

1. FC Union Berlin is more than just a football club. It is home and family for many people. This also results in a social responsibility of the club. The Social Working Group was one of the first working groups of the FuMA that initiated social projects. Existing networks have been utilized and expanded. Through the commitment of the Social Working Group, 1. FC Union Berlin has a strong presence in its social environment.

Meanwhile, some projects of the Social Working Group have transitioned to the responsibility of other stakeholders. For example, the Learning Center has become an integral part of the club's work. The working group also collaborates closely with the Union Foundation "UNION VEREINT. Shoulder to shoulder," established in October 2016.

The Communication working group is responsible for the external representation of FuMA. Its tasks include creating appropriate publicity for reports and information from the fan scene. To ensure this, we work closely with the Köpenick scene, the Eisernen Hilfe, and Eisernen V.I.R.U.S.

Furthermore, within the Communication working group, there is a working circle dedicated to football culture. Here, among other things, film nights are organized that thematically deal with football and invite all interested parties to look beyond the horizon.

The different phases of renovation of the Stadion An der Alten Försterei have always been milestones in the history of the club. This will also be the case with the planned expansion of the stadium. Such an expansion also means that various hopes, wishes, and interests collide among the fans. Additionally, 1. FC Union Berlin must of course also comply with all licensing requirements and safety concepts.

The AG Stadion has made it its task to take the interests of fans and members into account as best as possible in the planning of the stadium expansion and to incorporate ideas and wishes from the fan base into the new project.

The somewhat awkwardly named AG Grundsatzthemen is actually a discussion group. Here, fundamental issues are addressed that do not fit into other working groups. Leader Jacob Rösler takes the topics to formal and informal meetings and then explains to the FuMA management, in consultation with the active participants, opinions, recommendations, and options for action. Participation in the AG Grundsatzthemen arises from active involvement in one of the other working groups.

The fan and member department has been actively engaged with the topic of inclusion since 2021. The working group established at that time was created with the aim of enabling all Union fans equal and self-determined participation in active fan and club life, regardless of any potential impairments.

In order for those affected to actively contribute and raise their voices to enable participation and inclusion, the working group on inclusion was formed from the working group at the beginning of 2025.
