Busk keeps Union in the game

After the first 15 minutes promised an even game, the guests fought for an increase in chances and were finally able to take the lead in the 26th minute of the game with Tim Staubil's 1-0 goal. Union continued to put pinpricks forward in the further course of the first half, but did not get a goal in the first half despite Suleiman Abdullahi hitting the post. The guests from St. Gallen became more and more courageous after the goal, but failed with the Union's strong goalkeeper Jakob Busk. And so it went in the half-time break with a narrow deficit of the Iron.

Union succeeds in follow-up hit but time ran out

After the break, the home side were clearly trying to level the gap. Cedric Teuchert managed to get into a good scoring position after a corner, but could not bring the ball on goal dangerously (50th). The Swiss, on the other hand, took advantage of individual mistakes and increased twice: First Patrick Sutter (53rd), then Salifou Diarrassouba (60th). However, on the other side the ball did not want to cross the line. First Kevin Behrens failed to put his header in the back of the net from five meters, before Paul Jaeckel reduced the lead to 1:3 after a corner. Immediately after the restart, the post prevented the red-whites from making a second goal (70th). It was now Union's turn and after the substitutions they clearly were the better team. But time began to run out and it stayed that way. The Swiss won the test match at the An der Alten Försterei stadium.

Voice after the game

Union head coach Urs Fischer drew a mixed balance: "The first half was football without any contact from our side and that doesn't work. After the 3-0 we really woke up and had a lot of opportunities. I saw a lot of good things, but of course: If you lose 1: 3 you cannot be completely satisfied."
