The Women get Back to Business
A Return to Training for 2025
The women's team of 1. FC Union Berlin started 2025 this Tuesday morning when they returned to training for the first time.
Four new faces
Head coach Ailien Poese was able to welcome almost the entire squad to the Oberspree training centre for the start of training. Only Katja Orschmann, Sarah Abu Sabbah and Eleni Markou, who are still working their way back from injuries, were absent. Maria Cristina Lange, who is also still in advanced training, was also absent. The four winter signings, Nele Bauereisen, Leonie Köster, Elli Seiro and Tomke Schneider, were there from the start and completed the entire session.
With an icy wind blowing, athletic trainer Marcus Liebig got the players sweating with a warm-up programme and some runs. This was followed by various passing exercises, where the Klatsch-Steil combinations were particularly challenging.
The session ended with a final training game with three goals, in which the players were challenged in terms of coordination and technique. The day was rounded off after the post-training debrief and lunch.
The outlook
This coming Friday, 10 January, the squad will leave for their winter training camp in Oliva Nova, Spain, presented by sonnenschutz.de. There they will prepare for the second half of the current season over the next nine days. The first game there is scheduled for Saturday, 18 January 2025 when Union take on Bundesliga side Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the training camp.
