The Training Camp Begins
Union's Women in Oliva Nova:

After a journey of almost nine hours, the women's team of 1. FC Union Berlin arrived yesterday evening (10 January 2025) at their winter training camp in Oliva Nova, presented by sonnenschutz.de. The 2. Liga team will spend the next nine days in the Spanish coastal town and had their first training sessions today.
Flight via Frankfurt – an evening stroll along the beach
The journey to the camp began yesterday morning at the Oberspree training centre before the team made it to BER Airport. After a short stopover in Frankfurt am Main, the flight continued on southwards to Alicante. Once there, a one-hour bus transfer took the team to their accommodation. After checking in and moving into their rooms, the players and staff gathered for dinner together. A relaxed evening stroll along the beach rounded off the day of arrival.
The squad
Union head coach Ailien Poese and her team will have almost the entire squad at their disposal during the training camp in Spain. 28 players are present, including the four new signings from the winter transfer window, Nele Bauereisen, Leonie Köster, Elli Seiro and Tomke Schneider.
Sarah Abu Sabbah and Katja Orschmann are currently on their way back from injury, and are completing individual training programmes on site. Maria Christina Lange will join them all a few days later and will also complete a personal training plan.
Sweating it out on the Costa del Azahar
An intensive training programme consisting of two sessions was on the agenda today, Saturday. The morning was dedicated to passing and shorter game forms, which the players completed in three groups at different stations. After lunch and a short break, the afternoon session began. This time the focus was on situations when outnumbered, which finally ended in a larger game.
The weather in Oliva, a town in the south of the Spanish province of Valencia, could hardly have been better. At a pleasant 20 degrees Celsius – despite a strong wind that made it feel a little cooler – the camp offered perfect conditions for competitive sport. The hotel complex, which has been accommodating teams for over 40 years, offers a wide range of excellent facilities; spacious dining and wellness areas, numerous sports facilities and several well-kept grass pitches, which can be reached in around ten minutes on foot.
Tomorrow, the programme continues with a training session in the morning, followed by a workshop with sports psychologist Elisa Lierhaus.
Quote of the day: ‘Everyone travelling on to Alicante has to hurry when disembarking. The plane won't wait for you,’ announced a flight attendant over the loudspeaker.
