Anna Weiß Stays
New Deal for Versatile Defender

Defensive all-rounder Anna Weiß and 1. FC Union Berlin have agreed on a contract extension. Born in Saxony, she joined Union in the summer of 2023 and celebrated promotion to the 2. Women's Bundesliga with her team-mates last summer.
You can rely on Weiß
The move to 1. FC Union Berlin marked a farewell for Weiß after many years. In 2014, the now 26-year-old moved to the youth team of FF USV Jena and just one year later, at the age of 16, made the leap into the first women's team. She quickly became a key player for, and remained active at the club even after the merger with FC Carl Zeiss Jena. In total she played 131 games for Jena, including 53 in the Bundesliga.
Having only just joined Union, the defender suffered a setback when she was out for a long period due to injury. However, Weiß made an impressive comeback and has put in several strong performances in Union's defence this season. So far, she has started eight of 15 matches and provided an important assist in the 2-1 away win against SC Sand. She has played in every position across the back, never looking out of place.
The views on the extension
"I'm very happy to continue to be a part of 1. FC Union Berlin for the coming years as well," said Weiß on her new contract. "Promotion to the second division was an incredibly beautiful moment and I'm proud to continue to be on the pitch with this team. We still have a lot ahead of us and want to achieve these goals together. I will give everything to continue to help the team."
Union's director of women's professional football, Jennifer Zietz, had this to say meanwhile: "Anna has proven to be an invaluable player since her first day with us. Her versatility on defence, her commitment and her mental strength make her an important pillar of our team. We are happy that she will remain a part of us in the future and continue to work with us on the goals we have set ourselves."
