Yorbe Vertessen Moves to Salzburg

Yorbe Vertessen is leaving 1. FC Union Berlin and moving to FC RB Salzburg. The Belgian winger, who has played 19 competitive games for Union this season, scoring two goals, will now spend his time on the pitch in Austria.

Decisive moments in red and white

Vertessen moved from PSV Eindhoven to Berlin-Köpenick almost a year ago and was in the starting lineup against RasenBallsport Leipzig just three days after his transfer. But one of his most important moments came on matchday 22 of last season's Bundesliga campaign when he came on as a substitute in the 66th minute against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Vertessen dribbled his way to setting up the decisive goal in a 1-0 win, providing three vital points in the battle against relegation.

His first Bundesliga goal will also remain in the memory. In the 2-1 win over Werder Bremen, Vertessen scored to give his side the lead before setting up Brenden Aaronson to make it 2-0 just two minutes later.

Vertessen started the current season with an important goal in the first round of the DFB Pokal, when he scored with around 20 minutes remaining to secure a 1-0 win against Regionalliga side, Greifswalder FC, and progression to the next round. He also scored against Borussia Dortmund in the 2-1 Bundesliga win at home. In his year at Union, the Belgian made 32 competitive appearances, scoring five goals and providing two assists.

Views on the transfer

“My time at Union was an intense and educational experience,” said Vertessen on his departure from Köpenick. “It was full of ups and downs, and avoiding relegation on the last matchday was a moment I will never forget. The support of the fans, the passion in the club – all of that made a big impression on me. I am grateful for this time and I am taking many valuable memories with me. Now I am looking forward to what lies ahead.”

“Yorbe gave his all for us and created some important moments. This is now an interesting opportunity for Yorbe, so we wish him every success and all the best for the future,” said Horst Heldt, director of men’s professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin, commenting on the transfer.
