Union start practice

After yesterday's arrival at the winter training camp and a first activation session in Campoamor, Spain, the 1. FC Union Berlin professionals completed their first two full sessions on the hotel's own training pitches today.

As usual, the sessions began with warm-ups to prevent injuries. Union's head coach Urs Fischer, who hands over individual tasks to members of his coaching staff during the sessions, acts as a silent observer at such moments and registers what is happening on the pitch with a close eye. He also kept a close eye on his players during the following exercises, which focused on passing and forms of transition play, and gave clear commands if something did not go as it should. In some situations, he intervened himself and played along without further ado to demonstrate the content of the exercise.

During the afternoon training, which consisted primarily of training games with various formations, Fischer was also on the sidelines as an observer, analysing and coaching the action. After 90 minutes of concentrated work on the pitch and a lot of fun, the 56-year-old was confident in the subsequent interview with AFTV.

Quote of the day: "So many people for one goal? Should I still help?" when he saw his players carrying the goals onto the pitch for training.
