The four-time captain of the U19 team has played in Köpenick since the age of eleven. After eight years at the Alte Försterei, the Union centre-back received his first professional contract at the start of the season, shortly after which the Köpenickers loaned him to Stuttgarter Kickers. Both sides have now decided to end the loan with the Swabians and the contract with Union. The termination of the contract gives the centre-back the opportunity to look for a new challenge.

The view on the end of the deal

"Mathis' wish to terminate his contract was a sign for us that he could still find his way into professional football via another path. We naturally want to support this wish," said Oliver Ruhnert, Managing Director of Men's Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin.
