Union Berlin sign defender Rick van Drongelen

1. FC Union Berlin have continued to get into shape for the new Bundesliga season with the addition of Rick van Drongelen. The Dutch central defender has made the move from Hamburg.

The 22-year-old defender has represented the Dutch youth national teams and has earned good experience at a young age. After developing at Sparta Rotterdam, van Drongelen made the transfer to Hamburg where he made 18 Bundesliga appearances before the team's relegation to 2.Bundesliga. Overall, he has appeared 95 times for HSV.

"After last season, which was difficult for me personally, I am very happy to take a new step at 1. FC Union Berlin. The last few years of this club have been exceptional, so I am proud to be part of this team and this club from now on. There is an incredible atmosphere at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, which I remember very well, and I hope to be able to play there in front of a sell-out crowd soon," said the defender upon his arrival at the Alte Försterei.

"Rick is a great mentality player who has already experienced a lot despite his young age. We know about his qualities and are looking forward to a player who is capable of development and highly motivated," said Oliver Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin's Managing Director for Professional Football.
