Tim Maciejewski earns first-team contract

1. FC Union Berlin academy graduate Tim Maciejewski has signed a professional contract at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Born in Berlin, the 19-year-old attacker started out with SC Staaken and went on to play at Hertha Berlin. During the summer of 2017, Maciejewski moved across to the youth academy of 1. FC Union Berlin.

The forward has played a major role in the excellent performances of our U19 team in the North-Northeast Bundesliga. Maciejewski has scored 12 goals and assisted eight in the league and will transition into a first-team player for the club.

"Tim Maciejewski is a promising player with great development potential. That said, he will certainly need some time to develop this potential and show himself as an alternative option for our starting XI. The next steps on the way there are now set up and supported by the academy in close partnership with the first-team department," explains 1. FC Union Berlin's Director for Professional Football, Oliver Ruhnert.

"I'm very pleased about the trust the club has placed in me, which has been expressed through this contract and the training plan which has been set up. My target is to play for the first-team in the Bundesliga one day. The path to the top level in the first-team is a huge challenge that I would like to take on together with the coaches and staff at Union," said Tim Maciejewski on the signing of his contract.

"Tim has been playing with us for three years now and has developed really well, especially in the 18 months. We're very pleased that he wants to follow the path we have proposed to him and that he will be committed to us for a longer period of time. Our common objective is to award him it already this summer to give him playing practice in the first-team. Over the next one or two years, we are confident that Tim will develop into a serious candidate for our Bundesliga team," said Lutz Munack, the Director for Youth and Amateur Football at 1. FC Union Berlin.
