1. FC Union Berlin are continuing to beef up the squad ahead of the Bundesliga campaign in August. Midfielder Robert Andrich is the latest addition, arriving from 2.Bundesliga side 1. FC Heidenheim on a three-year-deal.

Andrich scored four goals in his 25 league appearances for Heidenheim last season. Born in Potsdam, he started with his local club before joining the academy of Hertha Berlin in 2003. The German U20 international made it to the first-team squad, whilst making over 50 appearances for Hertha's reserves. In 2015, he switched the capital for Dynamo Dresden where his 18-month spell would eventually lead him on to Wehen Wiesbaden. Frank Schmidt's Heidenheim picked him up at the beginning of the last campaign and he became a regular feature in their midfield.

"To play with Union in the Bundesliga is a dream. I'm really looking forward to returning to Berlin and taking the next step together with the club. Germany's top division will be a great challenge - one which I gladly accept together along with my team-mates," said the 24-year-old central midfielder upon his move to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

"With Robert Andrich, we have signed a talented midfielder who has undergone a remarkable development in recent years. He's at home in the middle and can be used both defensively and offensively. I'm sure that he can make the leap to the Bundesliga and play an important role in our team," added Oliver Ruhnert, Director for Professional Football at 1. FC Union Berlin.

Andrich's contract runs until June 2022 and is valid for both Bundesliga and 2.Bundesliga competition.
