There was disappointing news for 1. FC Union Berlin in Spain this week with Joshua Mees and Lennard Maloney picking up injuries and are forced to return prematurely.
Maloney, who played in the match against Belgian side Royal Union Saint-Gilloise, took a knock and returned to Germany. After further examinations, the central defender's injury isn't as serious as first feared and he could return to training in the near future.
However, 23-year-old Joshua Mees will need longer to recover after suffering a knock to his left thigh. The attacking-midfielder picked up the injury in Wednesday's training session and will be unavailable for coach Urs Fischer for the time being.
