Goalkeeper Andreas Luthe has departed 1. FC Union Berlin and completed his transfer to promoted 2.Bundesliga side 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

The 35-year-old leaves after two hugely successful seasons at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Luthe established himself as the club’s number one goalkeeper following his arrival from Augsburg in 2020. In his 65 appearances for Union, the former Bochum goalkeeper contributed heavily to Union’s success in the Bundesliga, as well as, our qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League and UEFA Europa League. He kept 15 clean sheets between the posts in Union colours.

"I will always look back on my time at Union with incredibly fond memories. What we have achieved together over the last few years will always fill me with a great deal of pride, and that is why I would like to expressly thank my team-mates, the coaching and support team, all fans, staff and those responsible for the past two years,” said the goalkeeper on his farewell.

"Andi has played a big part in the success of the last two years and has been an important part of the team, both in sporting and personal terms. That's why we respect his wish to be able to move to a club for a longer period of time. We are very grateful for the time we spent together and wish him good health and lots of success for the future," said Oliver Ruhnert, 1. FC Union Berlin's Managing Director for Professional Football.
