Union fans help clean up river front

More than 50 Union supporters turned up to the Stadion An der Alten Försterei before Saturday’s friendly with Bordeaux to clean up the River Wuhle, which flows adjacent to the ground.

Organised by the club’s foundation, the challenge was to clean up the shore pathway between Hämmerlingstrasse and An der Wuhlheide. The fans were equipped with brooms, shovels and garbage bags and were joined by official representatives of 1. FC Union Berlin, the stadium management, as well as, the senator for environment, transport and climate protection, Regine Günther.

“The club took over sponsorship of this part of the Wuhle in 2013,” said Jochen Lesching, Chairman of the Union Foundation. “With this joint action and the benches donated by us, we would like to improve the cleanliness and environment around the shore and we’ll ensure the Wuhle is treated with care.”

The action was a joint effort between 1. FC Union Berlin, the Union Foundation, wirBerlin e. V. and the district office of Treptow-Köpenick.
