Union fan attacked and fatally wounded

1. FC Union Berlin is currently mourning the loss one of its supporters.

A few hours after Saturday's game with SV Sandhausen, a young Union fan was killed in a knife attack at a parking area on Stahlheimer Strasse in Prenzlauer Berg.

The 19-year-old was attacked by an unknown culprit and was taken to hospital for an emergency operation. The supporter tragically died of his injuries on Sunday night.

"We are deeply shocked and stunned by the tragic death of this young man," said Union President Dirk Zingler. "In the face of such a tragedy, we Union fans share the grief and pain of our relatives. We wish the victim's family much strength in these difficult hours and will try to help them bear the brunt of this tragedy."

Out of respect for the relatives, all of the club's public events have been cancelled this week, including the fan-and player meeting tomorrow and the New Year's reception on Thursday.
