Union and Marco Grote to go Their Separate Ways
Coach to Leave at Season's End

1. FC Union Berlin and coach Marco Grote will no longer work together from the end of the 24/25 season. The decision not to extend the expiring contract at the youth academy beyond the summer was made jointly by Grote and head coach André Hofschneider
Grote's three-year tenure at Union's academy will come to an end this summer. During this time, he was responsible for the club's oldest junior team, with whom he also took part in the UEFA Youth League in the 2023/24 season. In the same season, Grote also coached the first men's team twice as interim coach and managed to keep the team out of the Bundesliga on the final matchday.
"In Marco, we brought in a coach in 2022 with many years of academy and professional experience, to give us completely new impetus. He has fully achieved this," explained adademy head coach Hofschneider. "With his strong personality, he has helped us to further develop and improve structures and professionalism in the U19s. Marco is a very tactically adept coach who got the best out of his team. His management style and match preparations are of a high quality. I would like to thank him for the good dialogue and fruitful discussions. Together we had great experiences and results with the U19s, with the Youth League as the absolute highlight. We are looking forward to the upcoming second half of the U19 season with Marco and wish him all the best for the future and continued success."
"The decision to go our separate ways from the summer makes sense for both sides,’ said Grote on the joint decision. "It has been three very challenging, emotional and successful years, which we want to bring to an end in the same way in the upcoming second half of the DFB Youth League. Thank you for your trust and cooperation. I will never forget Union, this special club; the players, the fans, Köpenick, the people around the club and the many employees and will keep them in my heart. I will always keep my fingers crossed for Union, look back fondly on this time and always pop in for an Eisern visit."
