19s defeat Hamburg

1. FC Union Berlin picked up a strong 3-1 win over HSV on Sunday in the U19 Bundesliga.

The Köpenick consolidated their place in the top four, but sit 10 points off league-leaders Wolfsburg. After 10 minutes, Fisnik Asllani converted from the penalty spot and he was given another chance to score from 12 yards almost immediately. Union's top scorer couldn't convert to score the second goal. Fabio Schneider was close on two occasions before Tim Maciejewski converted just before half time. Asllani missed a header after the break and Schneider added a third from distance.

"We could have led even more clearly by half time," said coach Andre Vilk. "Especially the first 20 minutes we dominated the game, but missed a lot of chances. In the second half, the game was pretty even. It was good that we were able to further extend our lead, otherwise it could have been a tense game. But we deserved to win and I'm very satisfied. It wasn't easy because of the conditions as it was wet and slippery. I'm glad nobody got hurt."

XI: Oppermann; Labroussis, Rankic, Liebelt, Riecke; Cvjetinovic, Schneider, Maciejewski, Aksakal (Nikol 68); Travassos (Ihne 75), Asllani

Next week, Union's U19s will make the trip to RB Leipzig. The match is scheduled for Saturday February 29 at 13:30.
