Permanent Deal for Midfielder

Wooyeong Jeong Staying at Union

What began as a loan in summer 2024 is now permanent. 1. FC Union Berlin have signed Wooyeong Jeong from VfB Stuttgart. The South Korean midfielder will remain a part of the Union family beyond the current season.

A lightning start followed by injury woes – Jeong’s first season at Union

The 25-year-old right-footed attacking midfielder made a strong impression right from the start. In his third competitive match for Union, Jeong scored his first goal at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei during the 2-1 home victory against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. With his speed, agility, and intelligence, he quickly added an unperdictable, lively element to Union's attack. Two more goals and two assists followed before an injury on matchday 27 in Freiburg abruptly halted his progess. Jeong was sidelined for the rest of the season.

Despite this, he still made 23 competitive appearances in his debut season. Plenty more are expected to follow.

The views on the Transfer

“I am very happy that I will continue to play for Union,” said Jeong on the announcement of his permanent deal. “From day one, I have felt very comfortable here, and the support from the fans, the trust of the coaching staff, and the special atmosphere within the team have meant a lot to me. I look forward to being back on the pitch soon and giving my all for our club.”

Horst Heldt, director of men's professional football Men at 1. FC Union Berlin, also welcomed the transfer: “Wooyeong has shown in his first season how valuable he can be for our team with his style of play," he said. "Although the injury held him back, it was quickly clear to us that we wanted to keep him long-term. We are convinced that he will pick up where he left off after his return.”
