14 arrivals, 14 departures; no Bundesliga club had more movement in the transfer market this summer than RasenBallsport Leipzig. The most notable departures were Arsenal-bound winger Lisa Baum, and German international, Giovanna Hoffmann (to VfL Wolfsburg). Despite the numbers, Leipzig mainly changed the peripheries of their squad, as besides Baum, only Julia Landenberger (also to VfL Wolfsburg) and Marlene Müller (to Bayer 04 Leverkusen) were regulars from last season who left. Coming the other way, five players from Belgium and three players from the Netherlands joined.

The significant overhaul can be seen as a response to a disappointing last season. Their 10th place finish, two points behind Union, marked the worst finish for in Leipzig's three-year Bundesliga history.

However, there is consistency at RasenBallsport on the coaching bench, where Jonas Stephan begins his third season as head coach. The 35-year-old is the third longest-serving coach in the Bundesliga, behind Frankfurt's Niko Arnautis (since 2017) and Mainz's Takashi Yamashita (since 2023).

The last two home matches against RasenBallsport Leipzig went extremely well for Union. First, the then second division team, knocked leipzig out of the DFB Pokal in the 2nd round, 1-0, in September 2024. A year later, the first Bundesliga duel between the two teams took place in Köpenick, which Union won spectacularly 5-0. It remains Leipzig's biggest Bundesliga loss, and Union's biggest top flight win. 

Union have won five of nine matches between the sides. Two ended in a draw, including the last meeting in March of this year, and Leipzig won twice in the Regionalliga .

Korina Janež played for RB Leipzig from 2022 to 2024 and was promoted with them to the Bundesliga in 2023.

Union's coaching team will have to do without the services of Anna Aehling, Cara Bösl, Hannah Eurlings, Korina Janež, Mariann Noack, and Tanja Pawollek on Sunday. 

“We have worked intensively this week and are now very much looking forward to the game in front of our fans in our stadium," said Union head coach, Marie-Louise Eta, in midweek. "We want to be active from the beginning, control the game, and present ourselves with a lot of energy.” 

The Stadion An der Alten Försterei opens one and a half hours before kick off. Tickets are available online as well as at all Union Zeughaus stores.

There are still extensive traffic disruptions in public transport and in the stadium area. Hämmerlingstraße will be closed to all traffic from Friday until approximately mid-December. The diversion for pedestrians will take place via Bahnhofstraße and Seelenbinderstraße.

There are no parking options available in the vicinity of the stadium. Currently, there are still a few spaces available for the parking lot in front of the main stand, bookable online.
