The women's football department of FC Bayern München was founded on 07.06.1970, and they have been a continuous part of the Frauen-Bundesliga, of which they were founding members in 1990, since promotion in 2000. With seven German championships, they are among the most successful teams in the country.

FC Bayern have also celebrated great success in the DFB Pokal, winning the competition in 2012, 2025, and 2026. They have been a regular fixture in the UEFA Women's Champions League since 2015/16. Though semi-finalists last year, they are yet to win Europe's biggest club competition.

Bayern's squad has remained largely intact over the summer, though Georgia Stanway leaving for Arsenal is a big loss. Their five departures have been balanced by five new signings during this transfer window, with the most notable name among the newcomers being winger Sarah Mattner, who came from St. Pölten and has already been nominated for the German national team.

Union faced FC Bayern for the first time in the Bundesliga last season. The first game, in Munich, was won by the hosts, 4-0, while Union were far more competitive in their 3-2 loss at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Nelly Smolarczyk was trained at the German record champions. From 2021 to 2023, she played in their U-17s, gaining important experience before she embarked on her further career path.

Marie-Louise Eta and her coaching team will have to do without Dina Orschmann, Tanja Pawollek, Mariann Noack, Hannah Eurlings, Korina Janez, and Anna Aehling for the season's opener

“We are very excited that it finally starts on Friday," said Union head coach, Marie-Louise Eta, during her press conference on Wednesday afternoon. "After an intensive pre-season, we are eager to return to league action. Of course, we are particularly happy to host the opening game of the new season at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei in front of our fans, and against the current German champions. We have set ourselves the goal of playing boldly, and hopefully irritating Bayern a bit.” 

The Stadion An der Alten Försterei opens two hours before kick off. Tickets are still on sale  online as well as in all Union-Zeughaus stores.

Hämmerlingstraße is reopened, however, the footpath to the stadium does not lead via the Waldweg, but along the Ballsporthalle. Please note the closure of Bahnhofstraße, pedestrians and cyclists can use the Bahnhofshalle as a detour. 

There are no parking facilities available in the vicinity of the stadium. The parking spaces on the stadium grounds are fully booked. Union recommends traveling by public transport. Please note the disruptions there.
