After a week in Oliva Nova:
Union women on their way back to Berlin
The women's professional team of 1. FC Union Berlin is on its way back to Berlin and, if everything goes according to plan, is expected to arrive in the capital shortly before midnight. After an intense week in Oliva Nova, Spain, the temperature difference of over 20 degrees upon arrival in icy Berlin was almost like a minor culture shock.
Last session in the morning – coaching staff draws positive balance
Slightly earlier than on the previous days, the Eisernen got out of bed in the morning to make use of the time before departure for one last recovery session. After emptying the rooms and briefly reflecting on the training week, the final lunch in Spain was on the agenda. Afterwards, the team made their way to the airport in Alicante.
Assistant coach Sabrina Eckhoff expressed complete satisfaction with the training camp: “We were able to make excellent use of the seven days in Oliva Nova. The conditions on-site were optimal, the weather is of course not comparable to the current conditions in Germany at all, and the pitch was in very good shape. Ultimately, we were able to implement exactly what we had planned. Additionally, the week provided the opportunity to hold many individual conversations with the players, which was particularly valuable for us.”
“We really had very good conditions on-site. The weather was fantastic, apart from the rainy first day, and having a chef at the training camp for the first time was directly reflected in the food. The result of the friendly was absolutely acceptable, and at the same time, we were able to take away some content from it as well. Overall, it was a very good start to the rather short preparation,” added defender and member of the team council Anna Weiß.
Back in Berlin, the team can look forward to two days off before training routines begin again on Wednesday. In less than two weeks, the Bundesliga second half of the season will start: On Friday, 23.01.2025, the women’s team of 1. FC Union Berlin will host Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Tickets for the match are available at all ticket offices and online.
Quote of the day: "We will all be shock-frozen," predicted Katja Orschmann before departing for Berlin, looking forward to returning to the icy homeland.
