First Round of the DFB Pokal Drawn
Union to Travel to Gütersloh
1. FC Union Berlin’s men’s team will play their first competitive match of the 2025/26 season in the DFB Pokal away at FC Gütersloh. The draw for the first round was made on Sunday evening.
Owen Ansah, Olympian, and the first German to run the 100 meters in under ten seconds, drew the balls at the German Football Museum in Dortmund, delivering a trip to Nordrhein-Westfalen for Union. Coincidentally, Union’s women's team played in Gütersloh during the first round of the cup last season.
“Gütersloh finished last season in an impressive second place in the table,” said Union’s director of men’s professional football, Horst Heldt, on the draw. “We are looking forward to facing our opponents and will do everything we can to advance to the second round of the cup.”
The first round matches will take place from August 15-18, 2025, and on August 26-27, 2025 (for clubs playing in the DFL Supercup). The exact dates and times are to be confirmed.
