Draw for the first round of the DFB Cup:
Union must go to Braunschweig
The men’s professional team of 1. FC Union Berlin will play its first competitive match of the 2026/27 season away in the DFB Pokal against Eintracht Braunschweig. This was determined by the draw on this Saturday.
Referee Deniz Aytekin, who ended his career at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, was active as a draw official at the German Football Museum in Dortmund and gifted the Eisernen the trip to Lower Saxony.
“With Braunschweig as a second division team, we have of course drawn a difficult lot. Eintracht secured their own survival late on and will certainly prepare focused for the new season, so it will not be an easy game for us. The positive aspect is that, especially for our fans, it is not a long journey,” said Horst Heldt, Managing Director of Professional Football Men at 1. FC Union Berlin, regarding the draw.
The matches of the first round of the Cup will take place from 21-24.08.2026 and on 01./02.09.2026 (for clubs participating in the DFL Supercup), specific timings are still pending.
