An Important Voice has Been Silence

Union Mourn André Rolle.

1. FC Union Berlin are mourning the loss of André Rolle. The long-time stadium announcer, who shaped the games at the Alte Försterei with his distinctive voice between 1990 and 2003, passed away on the evening of January 5, 2026.

André saw his first games as a small boy in 1967 at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Born in Altenburg, he grew up in the traditional Union catchment area of Berlin-Adlershof. Since the mid-1980s, he volunteered in the club's communication commission – as a typesetter and polygraph, he supported the club's work in many printed forms.

In 1990, André took on the position of stadium announcer, quickly gaining the recognition of the club's supporters. He remained the "voice of the Alte Försterei" until 2003 with only one interruption, and his moderation was characterised by his objectivity and wit. The iconic "Und niemals vergessen..." to punctuate his announcements became the established standard – as did the stands' response, "Eisern Union!"

Around the turn of the millennium as Union reached the 2. Liga, he was jointly responsible for marketing and merchandise within the club.

André was also the organiser of Union's annual Prize Skat Tournament from 2003 to 2019 and was the initiator and part of the organizing team for the "Exilertreffen" for away-supporting Union fans. He was involved in the Eisernen V.I.R.U.S., the fan and member department, as well as the Eisernen Hilfe, and participated in many other events that shaped and continue to shape the shared identity of the Unioner.

For his commitment, the club honored him in 1988 with the bronze badge of honour and in 2014 with the silver badge of honour.

André Rolle passed away at the age of sixty-eight. The club extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. His memory will remain at 1. FC Union Berlin – Eisern Union!
