Arrived and got started:

Union players start in Herzogenaurach

After a journey of around five hours, the men's professional team of 1. FC Union Berlin has today settled into its summer training camp at the adidas Home Ground. The Bundesliga team will stay in Herzogenaurach in Middle Franconia, Bavaria, until next Friday and will prepare for the upcoming tasks there.

First warm-up on the adidas grounds

From the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, the team first traveled by train from Berlin Central Station to Erlangen, and then a bus took them to nearby Herzogenaurach. After settling into the team quarters, the agenda began with a shared lunch before heading to the pitch for the first training session.

The focus of the session was initially on targeted muscle activation – a gentle entry that got both body and mind moving. Afterwards, the professionals had the opportunity to try out with the ball at their feet again: In relaxed game forms like the popular Rondo – the classic corner game – the feel for the ball and teammates was sharpened. A round of Headis provided special variety: The mix of table tennis and heading not only brought movement but also visible fun to the group. After further playful exercises and a concluding game with four goals, the first session finally came to an end.

During dinner, the team already took a look ahead: Two training sessions are scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday – at 10:00 and at 16:00. The afternoon session at the Adi-Dassler-Stadion is open to the public and gives all traveling Union fans the opportunity to experience their team up close.

The Squad

Head coach Steffen Baumgart had 29 players at his disposal for the start of training camp. After recovering from an illness, Oliver Burke will arrive individually tomorrow and then join the team. Livan Burcu did not travel; the 20-year-old underwent surgery due to an injury and will be out for the time being.

Duje Sliskovic and Elias Ali from the U19 of Union have also been called up to the training camp squad.

Quote of the Day: “Stepping over and then touching the plate – you can't do both!” said goalkeeper coach Michael Gspurning with a smile to Carl Klaus, who saw himself as a sure point winner.
