Today, Thursday, the Bundesliga team of 1. FC Union Berlin started the year 2025 with a public training session under new management. 802 Union fans braved the freezing temperatures to watch head coach Steffen Baumgart and his assistant coaches René Wagner, Kevin McKenna and Sebastian Bönig in their first training session.

High intensity despite the winter cold

In temperatures just above freezing, Baumgart welcomed almost the entire squad to an intensive training session. Only Frederik Rönnow, who is working on his recovery, and Oluwaseun Ogbemudia were absent. Yannic Stein completed an individual programme.

After a joint circle at the start and an extensive warm-up phase, the coaching team focussed on passing drills and forms of play. Quick decisions and a consistent switching game when winning and losing the ball were particularly important.

At the end of the sweat-inducing session, the players and the new head coach took some time to meet the spectators and sign autographs. The team, coach and fans were clearly looking forward to the upcoming tasks.
