1. FC Union Berlin will face DSC Arminia Bielefeld, in the second round of the DFB Pokal, just like last season. The match against last year's finalist will however take place at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei this time.
During today's draw for the second round at the Dortmund Football Museum, former referee Dr. Felix Brych drew the lots. The official officiated his 359th and final match in the Bundesliga in May when Union played in Augsburg. The opponents
Arminia prevailed against several Bundesliga teams last Cup season, including Union. However, they fell at the final hurdle, losing 4-2 in the final to VfB Stuttgart. Nevertheless, there was still something to celebrate for the East Westphalians in the end, as they secured promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. Now, Union will be looking to take revenge in Berlin-Köpenick.
“Bielefeld demonstrated in the Cup last season, as in the first round against Bremen, that it is not easy to beat them. Our goal is, of course, to advance to the next round. Naturally, we are also pleased that we have a home game in the Cup again and want to take advantage of this,” said Horst Heldt, director of men's professional football at 1. FC Union Berlin, on the draw.
The second round of the DFB Pokal will take place on 28 and 29.10.2025, with the exact times still to be announced.
