Another penalty brings the hosts back into the lead (72.), before Dina Orschmann scores the equalizer again in the closing stages (85.). It is the highest-scoring game in the Bundesliga history of the women's team.

HSV takes an early lead – Kamber scores to cut the deficit by halftime
The Union’s women had the better start in the match and created their first good opportunity after just a few minutes. After a recovery by Jill Janssens on the right side, the ball came over to Nele Bauereisen and to Lina Hausicke, whose deflected shot only hit the right post (4.).
Despite the active start, the Köpenickerinnen fell behind early. With their first dangerous attack, the hosts combined their way in front of the Union goal. Svea Stoldt shot centrally, but her shot was unfortunately deflected by Steuerwald, dropping in an unstoppable manner over Nadine Böhi into the net for 1-0 (10.).
The Eisernen responded immediately and could have equalized just a few minutes later. Bauereisen found herself free in front of Szemik but failed in the one-on-one against the Polish goalkeeper (13.). Instead of the equalizer, the next setback followed: After a free kick from about 20 meters in a slightly right position, Camilla Linberg curled the ball beautifully over the wall into the upper right corner, increasing the lead to 2-0 for the Hanseatinnen (15.).
After that, the Berlinerinnen increasingly took control of the game again. A one-two between Steuerwald and Reissner initially ended with an offensive foul just before the penalty area (30.). Shortly thereafter, Kamber sent Janssens on a journey with a beautiful long pass across half the field, but her shot was blocked at the last moment (35.). HSV also remained dangerous. After a misplaced pass in Berlin's build-up play, Paulina Bartz narrowly missed the goal (37), before the striker hit only the outside of the net a little later (40.).
After a strong counterattack, Reissner and Bauereisen combined with a one-two through the HSV defense. Reissner had a clear shot but was thwarted by a strong save from Szemik (44.). In additional time, the Eisernen struck back: After a cross from Reissner, the ball found its way to Lia Kamber, who decisively shot from a central position and netted the ball for the 1-2 consolation goal (45.+2). With this score, the teams went into the locker rooms.
Five goals after the break – Union keeps fighting back
The second half also began quite unfavorably for the Köpenickerinnen. After a controversial penalty decision, Stoldt stepped up and converted to make it 3-1 for the hosts (49.). But the response from the Unionerinnen was swift: Just one minute later, Pujols delivered a precise cross from the left side into the penalty area, where Bauereisen headed in to reduce the deficit to 2-3 (50.). Union remained the more active team, while HSV lurked for counterattacks. The next great opportunity was squandered by Weidauer, who failed to score with a chip shot after a long ball from Pujols, hitting Szemik instead (53.).
The equalizer followed shortly after with a commendable attack: After setup work by Bauereisen, Janssens slid the ball into the net for a well-deserved 3-3 equalizer (67.). However, the joy was short-lived. Once again, the referee awarded a penalty to Hamburg; Stoldt stepped up again and scored her third goal of the day to make it 4-3 (72.).
However, the Unionerinnen did not give up and pressed for another equalizer in the closing stages. Several attempts were initially blocked or failed to get through the Hamburg defense. Five minutes before the end, their efforts were finally rewarded. As with the second goal, Pujols delivered a pinpoint cross into the penalty area. This time, the substituted Orschmann headed in for a deserved 4-4 equalizer (85.). Thus, the Unionerinnen took at least one point back from Hamburg after a turbulent match.
Voices after the game
„We dominated the match for long stretches, so it should have definitely been a win for us. Hamburg executed their counterattacks well and were awarded two penalties. That can happen, but we kept fighting back, showed character, and worked hard for the point. We will take the positives with us for the cup match next week,” evaluated Nele Bauereisen the performance.
The goal scorer of the 4-4, Dina Orschmann, about the match: „It was a very wild game and the deficits felt somewhat very surreal for us. I am very proud of us for always coming back. Experiencing such a game, will benefit us a lot for the course of the season in the league. We will take this mentality into the next game against HSV.“
“I look at the match very ambivalently. We played a strong game for over 90 minutes and I am very proud of the team's performance. We had to cope with setbacks time and again, but we kept fighting back, which is not a matter of course . It felt like a lot was against us, but we did not let that deter us. Basically we gained a point in the end”, looks head coach Marie-Louise Eta back at her team's performance.
Outlook for the Coming Days
The women of Union do not have much time to catch their breath. An intense training week is ahead, with a public training session on Wednesday, 28.11., at 14:00 at the training center Oberspree. The full focus is on the upcoming Saturday, when the next duel with Hamburger SV awaits. In the round of 16 of the DFB Pokal, the league rivals will fight for a place in the quarter-finals.
