New Deal Along the Path to Comeback
Union Extend Contract With Leonie Köster.
Midfield all-rounder Leonie Köster and 1. FC Union Berlin have agreed to an early contract extension. The 24-time German youth international will remain a part of the women's first team squad beyond the current season.
Experience, team player and mentality monster
Since her transfer in winter 2025, the Munich born Köster has made two competitive appearances and a total of 100 playing minutes in the red and white jersey. At home game against 1. FC Nürnberg on 16.02.2025, Köster had to be substituted early due to injury and has been out since then.
Despite the long injury break, Köster played an important role within the team, bringing in all her previous experience, making a valuable contribution off the pitch to Union's promotion to the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga last season. The midfielder has so far played 30 matches in the Bundesliga, 30 games in the Women’s Super League in Switzerland, as well as over 70 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga.
After 325 days of absence, the U17 and U19 European Championship runner-up celebrated her comeback on Wednesday, 07.01.2026, in a friendly during the training camp against CD Castellón.
Statements on the extension
“The early extension of my contract means a lot to me and confirms the trust of the club. I've now fully settled here in Berlin and can hardly wait to run out in front of our fans again and collect my first minutes in the top flight with the Union badge on my chest," said a delighted Köster. I especially appreciate the strong support within the team and am happy to finally be able to make my contribution on the pitch.”
