Midfielder Focussed on Her Comeback
Korina Janež Extends Her Contract
The women’s team of 1. FC Union Berlin can continue to rely on the services of Korina Janež. The club has extended the contract with the midfielder.
Creative player with a fine touch
The Slovenian moved to Berlin in the summer of 2024 and quickly became an important part of the side, all the way to the Google Pixel Frauen-Bundesliga title. Janež played in all 26 second division matches, contributing three goals and four assists. Union's number eight impressed with her technical skill and creative elements, particularly.
She made her Bundesliga debut for Union on matchday six, away against 1. FC Köln. Having also played the following week during the 5-0 victory over RasenBallsport Leipzig, she made her first Bundesliga start against SV Werder Bremen two weeks later, only to pick up an injury. Since then, Janež has been working daily in rehab for her comeback.
The reactions to the contract extension
“I am very grateful to the club for the trust placed in me," said Janež upon signing her contract. "The weeks after the injury were very tough, and the club standing so firmly behind me is a great privilege. I will continue to work hard to come back quickly and repay the trust placed in me. Additionally, I am always so happy and thankful for such wonderful fans here at Union."
“Koko has contributed as a player to our promotion to the Bundesliga and is also a positive presence in the locker room. It is all the more regrettable for all of us that she could hardly play this season due to injury. We will support her as best as possible on her way back to the pitch and the club stands fully behind her. We look forward to her return to the field,” explained Jennifer Zietz, Union's Director of Women's Professional Football.
