Young Talent Stays at Union

Union Extend With Julien Friedrich

1. FC Union Berlin have extended their contract with Julien Friedrich, who is currently loaned to VSG Altglienicke. The forward's deal with the Regionalliga club ends in the summer of 2026.

Regionalliga experience at a young age

Friedrich has been playing for Union for seven years. He moved from his hometown club, SV 1919 Woltersdorf, to SG Rot-Weiß Neuenhagen before joining Union's U13 in 2018.

This season, the 19-year-old has played in 18 Regionalliga matches, scoring two goals and providing one assist. In the BFV Pokal, the left-footer also scored in the first and second round matches, contributing an assist in the 2-1 victory against Reinickendorfer Füchse in the quarter-finals. Friedrich has been on loan to Altglienicke since the second half of the 24/25 season and played nine Regionalliga and two cup matches for the Blau-Weißen last season.

Statement on the extension

“We are closely following Julien's development and are pleased with the progress he is making in an established Regionalliga team. He is one of our most promising top talents,” said Horst Heldt, director of men's professional football. “Julien is a young player with great willingness to learn and development potential. We are convinced of his path and look forward to integrating him into our professional squad from summer.”
