1. FC Union Berlin's most senior youth team face a real highlighton Wednesday evening as they host cross-town rivals Hertha BSC in the semi-finals of the Berlin Pokal. Kick off at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei is at 19:00.

The Opponents

Hertha's U-19s are currently competing in the DFB youth league main round Group B and are in fourth place. With five wins and three losses, as well as a goal difference of 29:14, the Blau-Weißen have the second strongest attack in the league, with only the A-juniors of SV Babelsberg 03 having been able to score two more goals so far. Last weekend, Hertha suffered a narrow 1-2 away defeat against DSC Arminia Bielefeld.

In the first half of the season, the "Alte Dame" narrowly missed the jump to League A and finished in fourth place, just one point behind the qualification spot held by third-placed Berliner AK.

The head to head

Both youth teams have faced each other a total of 27 times. Hertha BSC have won 17 of the encounters, while Union have won seven. Four matches have ended in a draw. The goal difference also favours the guests from Westend with 66:40 goals.

However, recent history belongs to Union, who have won both encounters this season. Most recently, they triumphed 4-3 at the end of November.

The view ahead of the Match

“We are looking forward to this match in front of a very special backdrop at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei and, of course, we want to reach the final,” said Daniel Schulz, new coach of the U-19s, before the cup showdown on Wednesday.
