Green Shoots, Now the Winter is Over
The New Professional Training Centre Takes Shape
The recent snow, frost, and ice have had a firm grip on the construction site of the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Nonetheless, significant progress has been made over the winter. Where concrete and steel primarily dominated in autumn, it is becoming clear how the future home of both of Union's professional teams is taking shape.
Since mid-February, the knocking, hammering, and drilling sounds from the construction crews have been heard again as work on the skeleton of the car park and sports hall got back into full swing. All important sealing work, initial roofing, and the construction of the underground pipes for water, wastewater, and electricity are also underway.
Order has also been established across the entire site; materials have been sorted, areas cleaned up, and pathways restructured to ensure that the upcoming construction phases can start smoothly.
Meanwhile, the sportshall's ground and first floor windows have been installed, with plastering work already underway on the ground floor. At the beginning of March, after a pause for the inclement weather, plasterboarding has also commenced. With its installation, the interiors are taking shape and the final floor plan is becoming increasingly visible, while theheating, ventilation, sanitation, and electrical installation work will begin this month.
Progress is also being made on the exterior of the building, with facade and brickwork planned for the end of March. This will give the buildings their distinctive “Union character".
By the end of April, the shell construction work is expected to be completed – a big milestone before the interior construction can begin in full.
