Between the Nations League and European Championship qualification:

Successful days for Union national players

The national teams were active in the past days, and five professionals from 1. FC Union Berlin were right in the midst of it. While Michel Aebischer successfully started the new Nations League season with Switzerland, András Schäfer collected international match minutes as captain with Hungary. The German U21 team, featuring Aljoscha Kemlein and Tom Rothe, was also challenged in the Euro Qualifiers, while Linus Güther played with the German U17 team in the Four Nations Tournament in Duisburg.

Aebischer and Switzerland on the Promotion Course

For Michel Aebischer and the Swiss national team, a total of four matches were scheduled in the Nations League. The "Nati" achieved a convincing 3-0 away victory in North Macedonia to start. Aebischer was substituted in during the final phase and gained more playing minutes in the national jersey. In the second group match, Switzerland faced Scotland. The match in Glasgow also ended with a 3-0 success, and Aebischer was on the field for 90 minutes. Following that, the Swiss team played against Slovenia (2-1) and North Macedonia (3-0). With the four victories, Murat Yakin's team maintained their course towards promotion to League A of the UEFA Nations League.

Schäfer First Time as Captain

András Schäfer was also challenged with Hungary in the Nations League. At the outset, the Magyars had to concede a 0-1 defeat to Ukraine. The Unioner was on the field for the entire match. In the following games, Hungary played against Northern Ireland (0-0), Georgia (1-0), and again Ukraine (2-1). Schäfer was consistently part of the starting eleven, leading his team for the first time as captain and supporting the fight for important points in the group.

Rothe Scores, German U21 Secures EM Ticket

For Tom Rothe and Aljoscha Kemlein, the international match phase with the German U21 national team was successful. At the start of the EM qualification, the team of coach Antonio Di Salvo won decisively 4-0 against Latvia. In the second match, the German selection also did not let anything slip. Against Malta, the DFB team won 4-1, with Tom Rothe scoring the goal for a temporary 2-1 lead and thus playing a crucial role in the success. To conclude the international match period, Germany hosted the Georgian selection. The match ended with a 2-0 victory. This secured the German U21 the first place in their group in the race for qualification and thus participation in the European Championship 2027 in Albania and Serbia.

Güther Gains More International Experience

For young player Linus Güther, the Four Nations tournament in Duisburg was on the agenda with the German U17. To begin, the DFB selection celebrated a 2-1 success against Venezuela, with Güther scoring the goal for a temporary 2-0 lead, making a successful start to the tournament. In the subsequent matches against Israel (3-2) and England (3-2), the forward was part of the squad and managed to score again against the Three Lions. With three wins from three matches, the German U17 secured the tournament victory.
