World Cup Qualifiers Begin for the Women

Seven Union Players on International Duty

With seven call-ups for the first international international break of 2026, more of Union’s women's team have been nominated than ever before. The international matches also mark the start of the 2027 World Cup qualification.

The nominees

The Belgian national team of Amber Tysiak and Hannah Eurlings will kick off the World Cup qualification in Group 4 of League B with two matches against Israel. Both matches will take place in Budaörs, Hungary.

Athanasia Moraitou and her Greek team-mates will be playing two home matches in Group 4 of League C in Heraklion. First, the Ethniki will host Georgia, followed by a game against the Faroe Islands four days later.

Lia Kamber faces Northern Ireland and Malta with Switzerland in Group 2 of League B. Union goalkeeper Nadine Böhi has also been nominated on standby for the Swiss team.

Tanja Pawollek starts with the Polish national team in Group 2 of League A with a home game against the Netherlands in Gdansk to begin the World Cup qualification. This is followed by an away game in France.

Two Union players were also been nominated for Austria. While Naika Reissner could celebrate her national first team debut, though called-up, Eileen Campbell has had to withdraw due to injury. Defender Marina Georgieva has also been nominated on standby. The Austrian women will face Norway and Slovenia in Group 4 of League A, where Germany is also represented.

Sophie Weidauer has been nominated again for Germany's U23s, who will play friendlies against Norway and Belgium. However, the forward is also available on standby for the A national team.
