Striker's New Contract

Mekhi Gray Signs a New Deal

1. FC Union Berlin will continue to rely on U19 striker Mekhi Gray and have extended the contract with the German-Jamaican beyond his time with the A-youth side.

Gray's football career began in 2014 at Weißenseer FC. After five years in Pankow, the striker moved to BFC Dynamo, before taking the step to Union's youth performance center in 2020. There, Gray has progressed through all the teams from U14 to U19 and earned a regular spot in the most senior youth team this past season.

In the first half of the DFB youth league, the 6'4" forward scored nine goals and one assist in 13 matches. This places him fourth in the scoring list – right behind teammate Dmytro Bogdanov. The A-youth team of the Eisernen have the strongest attack in the league. Additionally, Gray made his debut with the men's first team in September in a 1-1 draw in a Friendly against VSG Altglienicke.

Statement on the Contract Extension

“We are pleased to bind Mekhi Gray, a strong and accurate striker, to 1. FC Union Berlin beyond the U19s,” explained Lutz Munack, Managing Director of Youth and Amateur Football. “Mekhi has proven his skills as a key player with the A-youth team. We now want to support him in his further development as best as we can.”
